Dear dog lovers,
As you may have already known, Sled Dog Rescue is closing Sanctuary in Cyprus. We surely will write in more detail about the challenges in Cyprus that finally led us to this decision. However, right now, there are issues of most importance – finding homes for the dogs.
We have 20 dogs left in the Sanctuary, so if you are willing to foster or adopt, please check out dogs on our website.
Meanwhile, three amazing dogs are currently in need of a flight sponsor.
Tara is almost a year with us, while Gabi and Percy have been waiting for forever homes or foster opportunities for over two years. This is their chance to start new lives in climates appropriate to their physical and emotional needs. Please scroll to read their stories in more detail, and hopefully help =) The sooner they can reach the goal, the sooner they can fly!

Sometimes it is heartbreaking to think how close Gabi and his siblings were to finding homes. We nearly booked the flights for April 2020, when they were still puppies. But sudden news about the Pandemic broke sooner, and Gabi got stuck in Cyprus for almost two extra years.
He once was close to being adopted, but after the home check was done and we all got excited, the family changed their minds. We all were saddened, as for us, he is a special boy, while maybe for others, he is just one of many “rescue” dogs.
Luckily just recently, sweet Gabi finally got a winning ticket – a fantastic foster family in Germany. He has been waiting for over two years for this chance, so please help him to get one step closer to forever home!
It would be a shame if Gabi had to wait longer.
If you think Gabi deserved to get on that flight and that he should not wait any longer, please sponsor his travel!

TARA: as it is usual with most rescue dogs, we know little to nothing about their past when they come to us. Tara was wandering the streets and surviving independently after the family moved out and left her behind. When she joined Sled Dog Rescue, it was obvious that she was a lively, young, healthy dog. There isn’t much to suggest if she has husky in her or not, except maybe one part – she likes to chit chat, something we also see a lot in huskies. Being young and social, Tara attracted attention from one of our active volunteers and was offered a foster home in Germany.
Currently, Tara is looking for a flight, preferably to Munich. While she is going to foster home, we have to cover all her pre-flight and travel expenses. Please consider donating to help our little munchkin to get to her foster home finally.

PERCY: this dog is a real fluffy survivor. Little to nothing is known about how his life was before he was rescued. We only know that he lived for years in a crate in his previous home, and the dogs were given to us after the person got arrested. Based on Percy’s state of fur and health, it was evident that neglect took place for years. Nevertheless, Percy did not seem as if he was negatively affected. In The Sanctuary, he enjoyed the absence of confinement; he could mingle with some dogs or go in more remote corners if he needed his space. However, he truly blossomed when he moved to a foster home in Cyprus with Chris and Daniel. They fell in love with him instantly, and of course, would love to keep him.
Going through the summer with Percy was a big revelation. It is one thing to hear that Nordic dogs struggle in Cyprus, but it is very different from witnessing it with your own eyes. And so, they wanted the best life for Percy, even if that meant he couldn’t stay with them. This is indeed true love.
We reviewed many applications of candidates interested in adopting Percy, but there was always something on the way. Except for this one time, when the application arrived, and as we were reading it, the heart was beating faster =) The home check was done, and all looked well. Percy has a foster offer in Germany! After some discussions, we decided that it was the best option for our little fluffy peach! We know for sure he will enjoy his life in Germany much more, and it’s just so much easier for them to find a home when they are on the mainland. Then who knows, sometimes foster families become permanent homes =D
Please consider sponsoring Percy’s flight expenses. We have not yet booked the flight for him, but we aim to fly him at the end of November.
If you think that Percy deserves this chance, please consider sponsoring his travel and related expenses.
